DROWNING POOL’S SINNER AT 25: FROM BREAKTHROUGH DEBUT TO ENDURING ANTHEM

Originally released in 2001, Sinner arrived at a moment when nu metal was reaching a wider audience. For Drowning Pool, it marked a breakthrough—an album built on direct, heavy songwriting that connected quickly and held.

It would also remain the band’s only album with original vocalist Dave Williams (1972—2002), whose delivery—steady, forceful, and unembellished—gave the songs a sense of immediacy that continues to define the record.

The album returns June 5, 2026, for its 25th anniversary, newly available on Sea Blue Smoke vinyl alongside an expanded digital edition. The release adds “Bodies (Chris Vrenna’s XXX Tweaker Mix)”—from the former Nine Inch Nails drummer and producer—alongside “The Man Without Fear (feat. Rob Zombie)” and “Break You (Demo),” with the Vrenna remix available to stream now.

BUILT TO HIT AND HOLD
Recorded with producer Jay Baumgardner, Sinner centers on direct impact. The band moves between tightly structured tracks and heavier, more open sections, keeping the focus on how the songs land rather than how they’re constructed.

Among these tracks, “Bodies” took on a life beyond the album itself. Built around its chant-driven refrain, the song moves through repetition toward release, translating easily from record to stage. Over time, it became a fixture across sports arenas, wrestling broadcasts, film, and gaming—its reach extending well beyond where it started.

Rooted in the physical energy of mosh pit culture, the track channels that intensity into something communal rather than purely aggressive. As Dave Williams explained at the time, it was about release—“forgetting everything that has happened to you that week”—tempered by an unspoken code: if someone goes down, you help them back up.

LISTENING NOTES

  • “Sinner” — A high-energy, cathartic standout driven by soaring, wah-saturated riffs and Dave Williams’ intensely emotional, brutally charged vocals.
  • “Bodies” — Built around its anthemic refrain “let the bodies hit the floor,” the track turns repetition into momentum, becoming one of the most recognizable and widely recognized songs of its era.
  • “Tear Away” — Turns inward. A melancholic track that trades raw chaos for eerie melody and quiet intensity, driven forward with a head-nodding groove.
  • "All Over Me” — A punchy, high-energy cut driven by C.J. Pierce’s heavy, groove-laden riffs and Williams’ increasingly frantic, emotive delivery, channeling themes of regret and personal change with a raw yet melodic edge.
  • “Reminded” — Maintains a steady, pedal-to-the-floor intensity, pairing restrained desperation with dense, effects-driven guitar layers, anchored by the recurring line, “I’m reminded of you.”

BACK ON THE ROAD
The anniversary release arrives as Drowning Pool returns to touring across the Americas, the UK, and Europe, bringing Sinner back into the setting where much of its impact first took hold.

“We appreciate all of our amazing fans that have stuck with us over the past 25 years!” the band shares. “We will be playing the Sinner record in its entirety and other fan-favorite songs as well. Looking forward to seeing everyone and performing all these songs live again. Come celebrate Sinner with us. See you at the shows!”

More than two decades on, the album remains tied to a period when heavy music moved quickly across audiences—carried by songs that still hold up in both recorded and live settings.
