The Pharcyde
Born in the South Central area of Los Angeles, The Pharcyde stood out from the rap and acts that hit in the late-‘80s and early-‘90s. Members Imani Wilcox, Tre Hardson, and Romye Robinson were dancers by trade. Derrick Stewart joined the group in 1990 and their debut, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, catapulted them into the alternative rap scene. Opening for acts like Tribe Called Quest and participating in tours like Lollapalooza earned them fans outside of hip-hop. And the single “Passin’ Me By” landed in the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart.
