Ornette Coleman (March 9, 1930 – June 11, 2015) is one of the most important and influential innovators in Jazz. Sometimes considered controversial, his avant-garde style followed its own logic but always contained emotion. From his early albums on Lester Koenig’s Contemporary Records label, Coleman burst fully formed onto the scene. His albums including Something Else!!!!, Tomorrow Is The Question! and The Shape of Jazz to Come still sound ahead of their time to this day.
