FROM BLUES ROOTS TO GLOBAL STARDOM

When David Coverdale founded Whitesnake in 1978 following his celebrated tenure as frontman with Deep Purple, the band's music drew heavily from blues, soul, and classic British rock. By the mid-1980s, that foundation had evolved into something bigger.

Without abandoning its roots, Whitesnake embraced heavier guitars, bigger choruses, and arena-rock ambition, creating a string of multi-Platinum albums that resonated with audiences around the world.

SLIDE IT IN (1984)

The bridge between early Whitesnake and the global phenomenon, Slide It In sharpened the band's blues-rock foundation into a leaner, more contemporary hard rock sound.

Featuring "Love Ain't No Stranger," "Slow an' Easy," and the swaggering title track, the album retained the grit and soul of the band's earlier work while pointing toward the larger-than-life sound that would soon define its international breakthrough. It became Whitesnake's first U.S. Top 40 album and later achieved double-Platinum certification.

WHITESNAKE (1987)

Known simply as "1987" to many fans, the self-titled Whitesnake transformed David Coverdale's band into international superstars.

Powered by mega-hits "Here I Go Again," "Is This Love," and "Still of the Night," the album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, earned 8× Platinum certification in the U.S., and produced the band's signature hit when "Here I Go Again" topped the Billboard Hot 100.

The band's epic, cinematic music videos—including the iconic "Here I Go Again" clip featuring Tawny Kitaen—became staples of MTV, introducing Whitesnake to millions of new fans and cementing Whitesnake's place among the defining hard rock acts of the decade.

SLIP OF THE TONGUE (1989)

By the time Slip of the Tongue arrived, Whitesnake had firmly established itself as one of the world's biggest hard rock bands.

Co-written by David Coverdale and Adrian Vandenberg, the album took on a new dimension when Vandenberg was sidelined by a wrist injury and Steve Vai stepped in to record much of the guitar work. Featuring "Fool for Your Loving," "The Deeper the Love," and "Now You're Gone," the album reached the Top 10 in both the U.S. and UK, bringing one of hard rock's defining eras to a powerful close.

THE LEGACY LIVES ON

Taken together, Slide It In, Whitesnake, and Slip of the Tongue capture an extraordinary chapter in Whitesnake's history.

More than four decades later, these albums remain cornerstones of the hard rock canon, packed with enduring anthems, virtuosic performances, and larger-than-life ambition.
