THE CHIEFTAINS ALBUM VOICE OF AGES RELEASED FOR FIRST TIME ON VINYL TO CELEBRATE THE BAND'S 60TH ANNIVERSARY

“The world’s best-loved Irish folk band”
– The Guardian

Craft Recordings in partnership with Claddagh Records announces the first-ever vinyl release of The Chieftains’ iconic 2012 album, Voice of Ages. Set for release on March 17 and available for pre-order now, the 2-LP gatefold, 180g vinyl set coincides with the 60th anniversary of The Chieftains, the world's most celebrated traditional Irish band.

An imaginative collection of songs produced by Paddy Moloney and T Bone Burnett, Voice of Ages features collaborations between The Chieftains and an impressive array of like-minded musical visionaries from the worlds of indie-rock (Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Low Anthem, Paolo Nutini), country and Americana (The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers) and Irish folk (Imelda May, Lisa Hannigan).

Voice of Ages is a bold affirmation that The Chieftains’ inspiring influence, musical brilliance and enduring legacy are more relevant than ever.

Formed in Dublin in 1962, The Chieftains are a six-time Grammy Award winning traditional Irish folk band. Awarded the title of ‘Ireland’s Musical Ambassadors’ in 1989, The Chieftains have been credited for bringing Irish music to a wider audience, popularising it around the world.

Founded in 1962 by Paddy Moloney, Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy, the group had achieved great success in Ireland and the United Kingdom by the 1970s. In 1973, their popularity spread to the United States, and the group worked on the Stanley Kubrick Barry Lyndon soundtrack.

Successfully releasing records throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the band went on to collaborate with an amalgamation of musical icons such as Luciano Pavarotti, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Sinéad O’Connor, Roger Daltrey and Van Morrison.

Last year, in anticipation of their 60th anniversary, Claddagh Records released Chronicles: 60 years of The Chieftains: a stunning career retrospective that featured tracks from across the revered band’s discography.

The Chieftains Voice of Ages will be released on 2-LP 180g vinyl in gatefold sleeve, available from Friday 17th March 2023 from Craft Recordings in partnership with Claddagh Records.
