Dakar was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in 1957 and was originally a Pepper Adams & Cecil Payne album, and was credited to John Coltrane in its 1963 reissue on Prestige Recordings. The line-up features John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), Cecil Payne (baritone saxophone), Pepper Adams (baritone saxophone), Mal Waldron (piano), Doug Watkins (bass), and Art Taylor (drums).
