Bad! Bossa Nova (LP)
Bad! Bossa Nova was recorded on September 9, 1962 by Rudy Van Gelder, and released that year on Prestige Records. The personnel included Hank Jones (piano), Kenny Burrell & Bucky Pizzarelli (guitar), Norman Edge (bass), Oliver Jackson (drums), Al Hayes (bongos) and Gene Ammons (tenor saxophone).
From the mellow strains of "Pagan Love Song" to the extended and extremely rhythmically-oriented "Ca’Purange" (a hit when first issued), Ammons takes us on a tour that stops in the Caribbean ("Yellow Bird"), an Italian film featuring Silvana Mangano ("Anna"), and the Brazilian jungle ("Moito Mato Grosso").
